Solo Challenge Tracking Survey
|
Solo Challenge Tracking SurveyTracking of the Solo Challenges has proven to be an enormously successful addition to our events. Many thousands of website hits were recorded each year that the tracking has been in place. As you know, the tracking used for the Mac Solo Challenges over the past two years has been a manual operation, in which GPS positions were relayed by several skippers on the course to a land based volunteer who then input the information into a database for viewing on the web. While it did allow for our event to be viewed, it did have its drawbacks. First, positions were only updated at the call-in times, so it wasn't 'real time', and secondly, it required a tremendous sacrifice from those in the fleets that relayed all the positions, and also, to those 'shoreside volunteers' who actually entered the data. The Board of Directors is looking into an automated tracking program for this year's events, and would really appreciate your participation in a brief survey to determine the interest in automated tracking. It is more expensive, and for it to work, those participating would likely be asked to pay at least a portion of the expense this year. It is possible that part of the expense could be borne by the GLSS Treasury, or perhaps a sponsor. The results of the recently concluded tracking survey poll are posted below - the GLSS Board of Directors extends their thanks to those that participated in the poll, and thus helped to shape the tracking of future GLSS events!
